Virginia's Senator

On the Road With the Tackling Student Debt Tour

We have had a great time so far discussing student debt reform with Virginia students on the Tackling the Student Debt Tour. Over the past few days we stopped at Old Dominion University, the College of William and Mary, Virginia State University, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia.

While these colleges and universities may be different in size, location and school mascot, they share an important commonality: a interest in making college more affordable and reducing the amount of debt students have to pay off once they graduate.

At each stop, Senator Warner talked in depth about his bipartisan work to address the growing student debt crisis. He discussed his bipartisan Employer Participation in Refinancing Act, which he introduced with Republican Senators John Thune and Kelly Ayotte. The bill allows for employers to assist their employees in reducing their student loan debt by strengthening employer-provided education assistance programs.

He also made sure to address the importance of making college affordable, citing his Know Before You Go Act with Republican Senator Marco Rubio, which provides students and their families’ insights into the investments and potential outcomes of a college education.

We have more colleges and universities to go on our Tackling the Student Debt Tour, so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
