PENNINGTON GAP — United States Senator Mark Warner visited Pennington Gap yesterday for a town hall meeting and a visit to the hospital site. Sen Warner spoke before a moderate crowd made up of citizens, local leaders, and press inside the Pennington Gap Community Center on Morgan Ave. Pennington Gap Mayor Larry Holbrook and Vice Mayor Jill Carson introduced Sen Warner, who spoke about his Senate goals before fielding questions.
Warner said that he was glad that medicaid expansion passed in Virginia. “Without medicaid dollars, we would likely not see the reopening of Lee County’s hospital,” Mr Warner said. Warner also spoke about Ballad Health’s and Lee County Hospital Authority’s work to reopen the hospital. He said, “The urgent care is opening soon, and we are grateful for that, but we must have a full hospital in Lee County.”
